In 80% of cases the camera nails the focus instantly without hunting.

I must live in the 20 remaining %, lol...

generally I try to focus between two contrasting edges using single focus point,it could be the face and just off face, this usually give me much more positive results ,however if the subjects moving then that way is difficult if not impossible, I still use predictive focus for moving subjects.

heres an interesting tutorial re autofocus,

    Understanding Camera Autofocus

and how about this in an e mount

heres a picture I took of my granddaughter on christmas day, it was a spur of the moment shot,ie quick shot, with fill flash from the built in flash on the nex 6 and 16-50 kit lens, I,m quite happy with the focus, click pics for 1024 size,. the eye shot is a crop of the main photo

    Your grand-daughter is gorgeous !!
I must be cursed with poorly AFing NEX bodies because I'm on my third unit (5N, 6 and 7) and none have lived up to my AF expectations. I tried AGAIN the 6 with updated 18-55 this morning and the AF was average at best.

nianys. I love that word "AFing"! I'm going to be using that.

On the subject of "AFing", I had an interesting day today. I went out to shoot some stock with my 5N and Sigma 30 and the X PRO 1 with 60mm.

As always the 5N/Sigma AF'd perfectly, not blazingly fast, but consistently accurate and returned 100% users. The XP1 on the other hand, and as usual, did not!
    Approximately 10% users.

In another thread I asked, should I buy an NEX 6 and why?
I concluded that perhaps I was better off just sticking to the 5N. I am now questioning this decision, as I have pretty much had a gut full of this "AFing" X PRO 1 letting me down!!!!!!
    What does this button do?

I find all three NEX bodies that I tried pretty consistent for AF. Consistently... Lazy, that is. I probably have higher expectations than most folks for AF. But to me a cam that misses shots because the AF is too slow to lock is just that... Slow.
No doubt that my 6 seems very accurate.
