Thread: Midnight sun - (SEL1017)

To properly share with everyone what I have got from the SEL1018 & NEX7. This is probably a better illustration of the capability of the SEL1018 since I've got it. The image was corrected in LR4 for noise (because I had turned of the long exposure NR ) The raw has a lot more potential but this image is from .jpg (but due to my laziest these day... ). Maybe my particular lens + body combination, you can see a bit of magenta in the right hand corner. But I have to say this lens is pretty sharp from what I can tell.


I still have some trouble focusing using the EVF in the dark when the noise become distracting... hard to set it to infinity because the barrel just goes round and round! LoL I'm getting better working with it, however any tips and tricks are welcomed!!

Focus using the LCD, use the focus magnification and look for a star bright enough that you can see it. Then turn the focus ring until the star is as small as possible - mission accomplished, you focused properly to infinity in next to no light.

Nice landscape! A little bit of magenta at every sides is pretty obvious, but you should be able to get rid of it in post.

Stopping down in next to no light? Nope, you can't do this or you'll either end up using ISO 6400 or higher or you're going to get star trails ...

Poki - I will give LCD a try next time.
gio - i guess that mean try to use hyperfocal focusing? If I change the focal length I probably need to refocus again right or is it depends on the lens?

I usually ended up shooting a lot of pic @ISO6400 just to check for framing and focusing...and once I got it, I tried not to disturb the focusing ring... next thing you know...I turned the wrong ring.
