    there is star trails and i think they help make the photo

    They help in this case because the clouds give a sense of time. However, in most other cases star trails are not what you want to get, so you can't simply say "stop down" as a general suggestions - as it's wrong 90% of the time.

    Yes and no. Many photos that include star trails include them because the photographer didn't know how to avoid them, and many of them would be better without them (however you are right, that's probably just my humble opinion).

    You know, you can argue years about somebody's preferences, but you won't come to any conclusion.
