Is the Samsung NX system Sony's Nex main competitor ???
The NX300 is expected to hit the market on March 2013.
Looks like there will be tough competition this year
Sony better "wake up" ...I wonder what they have under their sleeves for 2013...

I think it looks like a NEX crossed with a fuji! The thung with Samsung is, it should be Sony's main competitor given sensor size, but AF struggled (more I think) low light performance wasn't great and IQ not as good. Add that to huge file sizes and slow write speed and it's not so much a sleeper as a floater

The more the merrier. Let's hope they push each other. The winner will be the consumers with better tech, design and price competition.
NEX-7 NEX 5n SEL 18-55mm /3.5-5.6 1 black/1 silver SEL 50mm /1.8 SEL 55-210mm /4.5-6.3 SEL 16mm /2.8 VCL-EUC1 SEL 35mm /1.8

I have to say that after reading the review as linked by RT_Panther here: First Impressions: Samsung NX300 and 45mm f1.8 3D I am mightly impressed with the NX300!!!
Looks like it doesn't miss much from Sony's top of the range Nex-7 (minus the EVF which is the only thing that bothers me with the NX300) offcourse until the new Nex comes out
20,3MP sensor (vs 24mp), hybrid AF with contrast and phase detection (vs Contrast) with Samsung claiming that should be the best in the world, 9fps continuous shooting vs 10fps, larger 3,3'' (and probably better?) titl and touch screen, 25600ISO (vs 16200), WiFi, mode dial, lots of controls you can choose, focus peaking (which doesn't say how it performs), 1/6000s shutter speed, more (and better according to some reviews I've read) lenses, lighter body (looks smaller too ?), and only $750 (vs $1100) !!!
Nice retro design but the Nex-7 looks better IMHO regarding ergonomics (ie. better grip)
Review also says that you get the camera together with LR4 which sounds awesome!!!

Well put. 3D is still a little bit of a gimmick in my book, but I love the retro design. I do like Samsung products as my cell phone, 2 TV's, bluray and laptop are all Samsung. All perform admirably.
I think Samsung and Sony share the same battle being they're both electronic giants trying to compete with the very well established photography giants of Nikon, Canon, Olympus...etc. I know my own views were jaded at first, I refused to think a Sony camera would be good enough despite what I read, and it took the blowout clearance pricing on the 5N to make me try it and change my mind.
Sony NEX-5n // Leica IIIf RDST // Sigma 19mm F2.8 // Voigtlander 21mm F4 // Nikon 28mm F2.8 AIS // Voigtlander 35mm F2.5 Color-Skopar // Leica 50mm F3.5 Elmar // Leica 90mm F4 Elmar

The next Canon mirrorless camera is rumoured to be a Nex 6/7 competitor (built in evf, more controls) but they need to improve their AF (apparently it's worse than Nex) and the EOS M was a let down in many ways so who knows if they will get it right at the second attempt or not?
That said, I would say micro four thirds is the main competitor despite the smaller sensor - the newer 16mp m43 sensors are a big improvement on the previous 12mp sensors, especially in terms of high iso performance. Still not as good as the APS-C sensors in the Nex cameras, but m43 does offer much faster AF and a much better selection of native lenses, so that may sway some people who are trying to decide between Nex and m43.

I think I read somewhere that Canon and Nikon aren't that interested in investing in the mirrorless type cameras/system and will probably continue to focus in the DSLR market...

Funnily enough, I've been having a long conversation the last 2 days with a friend of mine that wants to upgrade from P&S and I was trying to convince him to opt for APS-C mirrorless than m4/3...
Anyway, I feel like for one wanting to buy a mirrorless camera today, the decision is pretty hard to make with all those (good) options now (and soon) available.
Lets see what Sony plans for 2013...(I'm having my fingers crossed that Sony will come out with something exceptional to continue to lead the mirrorless market)

I like the fact that there is another camera manufacturer and specifically another sensor manufacturer providing an alternative. Sony has been brilliant at pushing the extremes of sensor design in terms of measurables like dynamic range and high ISO noise, but that doesn't imply that their sensors will produce the more pleasing image in all circumstances. The 20MP Samsungs have a unique flavour of their own which I immediately connected with on my NX200.

Why not Fuji? It's the same sensor size too....
